A short tale on the story of my family’s immigration to Canada. My grandfather was born in the Ukraine when it was part of the Soviet Union. During WW2, he was taken to Nazi Germany to work in slave labour camps. After the war, he pretended to be Polish in order to be sent to displacement camps for refugees rather than get sent back to the USSR. He met my grandmother, an Austrian who fled to England and together they made their journey to Montreal, Quebec.
